Holiday Spirit

Today is December 7, 2012.  Some know the day as the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, for some it's their birthday, and for others it means only 18 more days to shop until Christmas. Whichever applies to you on this day, just remember to take some time for yourself to reflect on where you've been, most importantly where you are at the present moment, and envision where you want to be in the future.  Make sure that you are healthy mentally, emotionally, and physically so that you can be the best version of yourself on a daily basis.  That will make you a joy to be around this Holiday season and your Spirit will be a gift to all of those with whom you come in contact.

For those of us who are artists, this time of year we have the opportunity to use our talents and abilities to spread Holiday cheer.  Sing Christmas carols with family and friends, design a Nativity scene or hang lights in a creative way, cook a dish that you've always wanted to try and invite someone to break bread with you, put on a show, read a book to someone or tell them a story.  No matter what you do, be sure to give your talents this holiday season with the Love and passion you have when performing any other day of the year.

This time is not about material things.  It is about being thankful for your place in this world, being with the ones you Love and if you can't be with them, it is a time to let them know you Love them by deed as well as words.  Too often we take the words, "I love you" for granted.  Really mean it when you say it.  Showing someone rather than telling them is also a great creative way to make someone feel special.  Be a blessing and a benefit to all who allow you into their lives.

Christmas is the day that the greatest Love of all was given to this world.  No matter your religion or belief system, treat yourself and others with the Love that God had for us all when he came to this world in human form and took on the sins of the world so that we may live, and have eternal life.  If you don't believe that, no problem.  This post isn't about my beliefs versus yours, I'm just trying to get you in the holiday spirit and challenge you to carry that spirit into each day of the new year.

The late Luther Vandross and Gregory Hines have a duet "There's Nothing Better Than Love".  I think that is applicable during this time.  When you Love yourself, your process, and your journey, you can then Love others and be open to receiving Love.  This holiday season make sure you have Love in your heart when you give and you'll receive much more than you could imagine.

Happy Holidays!
